Canada. Chief Superintendent of Indian Affairs : A General Order dated 2 August 1828 abolished the position of Superintendent General of the Indian Department and Inspector General of Indian Affairs and created in its stead the office of Chief Superintendent of Indian Affairs. Major-General H. C. Darling was appointed to this position and held it until the further re-organization of the Indian Department which was carried out in 1830. However, Darling left the colony for England the month after his appointment, and Lieutenant-Colonel D. C. Napier was appointed to act for him during his absence. RG10 General Inventory
