Compagnie Électrique de Valleyfield : La Compagnie Electrique de Valleyfield was established in 1887 to supply hydro electricity to the Valleyfield community. Montreal Cottons acquired the company in 1911 to ensure an adequate supply of power to its textile mills. Although the Valleyfield Electric Co. operated as a subisidary of Montreal Cottons, it continued to supply power to the city, residences and other local industries. Montreal Cottons sold the assets of the utility to Beauharnois Light Heat and Power Company in 1927. Valleyfield Electric remained a part of Montreal Cottons, and then later part of Dominion Textile until the company was dissolved in 1971.
