D Division was stationed at the following locations when these records were created: Shoal Lake (1878-1879), Battleford (1880-1886), Fort Macleod (1886), Fort Steele (1887-1889), and Fort Macleod (1889-1919). The records include letterbooks, letterpress book of telegrams, daily orders, daily diaries, and correspondence.Biography/Administrative history:Royal Canadian Mounted Police. D Division : The original force of the NWMP marched west out of Fort Dufferin in July 1874. "D" and "E" divisions were sent back east in September. The "D" division returned to headquarters at Fort Dufferin. In May 1875, they travelled north to Swan River, which became the de facto headquarters of the NWMP until 1876. In 1876, the "D" division traveled back south to Fort Macleod. Along with the "C" division, the "D" division was the main force at Macleod while in served as headquarters for the NWMP from 1876 to 1878. In 1878, the "D" division was relocated to Shoal Lake. In 1880, Shoal Lake became an outpost of the new Eastern district with headquarters at Fort Qu'Appelle, and the "D" division was consequently relocated to Battleford where they remained until 1886. In 1886, they were relocated to Macleod, where they remained until 1919.
