The series includes central registry files concerning school attendance, principle's monthly reports, residential school admissions and discharges. James Bay Agency : The James Bay Agency was established 10 May 1929 (Order in Council 800-54)to administer the affairs of the Treaty 9 bands of northern Ontario. The 1929 order-in-council stipulated that the position of the officer in charge of the agency was to combine that of Indian Agent and physician. The addition to the agency mandate of a number of Quebec bands was apparently done in 1955 (see RG 10, volume 8212, file 401/1-1). According to a 1955 Treasury Board minute, the agency was responsible for the following Bands located in the province of Ontario - Albany, Attawapiskat, Moose Factory, New Post, Weenusk - and the following located in the province of Quebec - East Main, Fort George, Great Whale River, Namiska, Old Factory, Rupert House. In 1965, responsibility for the bands located in Quebec was transferred to the Abitibi Agency. The James Bay Agency became part of the James Bay District 15 October 1969 (see RG 10, volume 11092, file 411/1-1, pt. 2).
