The fonds consists of sheets and large multiples of Newfoundland postage stamps, 1896-1947, 1 pane of Canadian stamps, 1898, and 1 sheet of Nova Scotia stamps, 1860. Also included are sheets of Newfoundland revenues, 1942-1964, a sheet for the Wayzata Air Post essay, 1932, sheets of Kaulbach Island labels, 1977-1978, outside covers of coil tube, and registered letters, 1938, postally-used.

The fonds contains also photocopies of feature stories on Newfoundland railways and travelling and photocopies of detailed statement of expenditure for the Newfoundland Post Office & Telegraph between 1917 and1931 including: salaries' account, subsidies' account, administration and operation expenditure, post office names, postmaster names, steamship names, etc.

Wilson, J. Don, 1924-2005 : James Donald Wilson was born 1924 in Calgary. He lived in Peru, and Dartmouth, before graduating as a Mechanical Engineer from the Nova Scotia Technical College. It was in Dartmouth that he married Jean Drury Young in 1952. Mr. Wilson started in the construction business in Nova Scotia and then Newfoundland and Labrador. He began his own company in 1959, called Avalon Construction and Engineering Ltd., which he operated for fourty years.

At age seven he was first introduced to stamp collecting by his father, who collected stamps of Peru, Germany, and the world. At this early age, James Donald Wilson entered his Newfoundland collection in his first philatelic exhibition. He won first prize, and from 1959 he continued collecting Newfoundland philatelic material. Subjects included Newfoundland Railway Post Offices, Travelling Post Offices, revenues, postage stamp sheets, postal stationary, and town cancels. Mr. Wilson was Director of the British North America Philatelic Society (BNAPS) from 1990-1998, and for the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC)from 1992-1997. He also served as Chair of the British North America Philatelic Society Ethics Committee from 1990-1994, Chair of the RPSC complaints committee, 1992 to 1999, and President of the St. John's Philatelic Society, 1991-1995. He was awarded the Order of The Beaver from the BNAPS and Fellow of the RPSC. He was also a member of the American Philatelic Society, Canadian Philatelic Society of Great Britain, as well as many others. James Donald Wilson passed away on May 1, 2005 in St. John's, NL.
