Beginning in the early 1950s the preparation of the cards was undertaken by the Public Affairs Unit using the files and letterbooks that were eventually turned over to the National Archives of Canada. The cards relate to open and closed civilian and military post offices located in the ten provinces and two territories. Information usually found on a history card incorporates the following elements: name of place, date of establishment, date of closing, name changes, name of postmaster, military status, date of birth, date of appointment, date of vacancy, cause of vacancy and location changes of the post office.
Volumes 3528-3533 consist of 29 binders containing photocopies of the postal history cards for offices in the Province of Quebec. These cards duplicate, complement and help complete the postal history card holdings. In particular, the binders contain the cards for the Montreal regional offices which were not previously available.Additional information:Source of title:Title is based on the contents of the sub-series.Availability of other formats note:Postal history cards for all provinces and territories, have been entered into the MINISIS database (PSFDS03) and are available to researchers on the Post Offices database in ArchiviaNet.Accruals:No further accruals are expected.Related material:The files and letterbooks used in the preparation of the cards are found in this fonds in the General correspondence sub-series (RG3-B-2, Vols. 365-562, MIKAN #133140) and in the Reports sub-series (RG3-D-3, Vols. 1-136, 1366- 1467, 1510-2167, 2769-3272, 3304- 3307, 3456-3463, 3467-3469, 3608-3791, MIKAN #133401).Source:GovernmentFormer archival reference no.:RG3-D-3 -
