The fonds consists of a specialized research collection of precancelled Canadian postal stationery comprised of the following: covers and post cards, regular issue or private order, from the King George V Admiral to Queen Elizabeth II Centennial issues, including various samples of manufacturer's Specimen Only covers. Also included are a selection of post bands from the Q.E.II Cameo issue. All categories bear either standard or private precancels. The collection also includes complete and partial sheets of advertising labels for the Christmas, Easter, and Tuberculosis appeals of 1953-1963. With this material is an annotated copy of Mr. Manley's book -- Canadian precancelled postal stationery handbook, in manuscript form, dated 1984.

Manley, George E. L., 1912- : A resident of Wareham in Dorset, England, Mr. Manley has spent 70 years collecting and studying precancelled stamps and postal stationery. He first shared and then carried on his father's interest in precancels. He has written on the subject in Maple Leaves, the journal of the Canadian Philatelic Society of Great Britain, and in other philatelic periodicals. He is the author of The Canadian precancelled postal stationery handbook (1984), and contributed a chapter on precancelled postal stationery in the Canadian precancel handbook (1988).
