He became a banker, and from 1875 to 1890 represented West Huron in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, holding the post, from 1883 to 1890, of the Provincial Treasurer. In 1890, he was appointed clerk of the York County Court, and he died in Toronto in 1900. The photographs include a portrait of Alexander McLagan Ross; views in and around Goderich, Ontario, including his house, and the activities of his family and friends; views in and around Ottawa; views in and around Toronto, including his residence in Rosedale, and a number of views on the Don River; and a number of views in the Muskoka District in Ontario; the Bow River near Calgary, Alberta; Esquimalt, British Columbia and other B. C. locations, including Illecillewaet, Hermit Range; and Halifax, Nova Scotia. The photographer is presumed to be Alexander McLagan Ross or one of his family.Provenance :Information additionnelle :Note générale :Three photographs were published in "Private realms of light" in 1984.Source du titre :Contents of album and given title in accession binder.Historique de la conservation :The album was given to H.W.C. Meyer, perhaps as a present, by Alexander Ross at Christmas, 1895. Thereafter the album was transmitted by unknown means to the Glenbow Foundation.
