Montreal and Champlain Railroad Company : In May 1857, the Company of Proprietors of the Champlain and St. Lawrence Railroad and the Montreal and New York Railroad Company amalgamated by statute (20 Vic., Cap. 142) and took the name Montreal and Champlain Railroad Company. The new company operated the 84.39 miles of line until 1 January 1864 when the Grand Trunk undertook to lease the railway (27-28 Vic., Cap. 85). Included in the lease was an option to buy. This was exercised in June 1872 (35 Vic., Cap. 64), and the Montreal and Champlain Railroad Company became part of the Grand Trunk Railway Company of Canada. RG30 General Inventory
