International Bridge Company : The International Bridge Company was formed by an amalgamation on 18 May 1870 of the International Bridge Company, New York, and the International Bridge Company, Canada, which was authorized by the laws of the state of New York and by Dominion Act, 32-33 Vic., Cap. 65 of 22 June 1869. The purpose of the new company was to build and operate a bridge across the Niagara River between Fort Erie, Ontario, and Black Rock near Buffalo, New York. The acquisition by the Grand Trunk of the Buffalo and Lake Huron Railway Company made construction of such a bridge desirable. It would replace a previous car ferry service and give the Buffalo and Lake Huron access to Buffalo as running rights over New York Central tracks from Black Rock to Buffalo had been acquired. Construction commenced in early 1870 and the bridge opened for traffic on 3 November 1873. Since that date the bridge has undergone a process of modernization and enlargement.

On 28 June 1956 the International Bridge Company amalgamated with and took the name of the Canadian National Railway Company. RG30 General Inventory
