Canadian Northern Steamships, Limited : The Canadian Northern Steamships, Limited was incorporated under Dominion Letters Patent dated 21 October 1909 to operating a shipping business with ancillary enterprises. From May 1910 the company operated two 12,000 ton steamships the Royal Edward and Royal George between Canada and the U.K. Following the war loss of the Royal Edward in 1915 the other vessel was sold and the service abandoned as of 3 March 1916. When the company was merged with the Canadian National Railway Company on 11 June 1956 it operated a car ferry, two barges and two tugs between Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia.
