Cap. 33, 11 April 1872) of the Northern and Western Railway Company of New Brunswick and changed its name. To the initial 115.73 miles of line from Chatham Junction to South Devon with a nine mile branch to Indiantown, on the Intercolonial was added the 16.5 miles of line from Chatham Junction to Loggerville of Chatham Railway Company, formerly the Chatham Branch Railway Company. In 1898 the Canada Eastern Railway Company was conveyed to the Alexander Gibson Railway and Manufacturing Company, but operated under its own name. Effective 1 October 1904 the Dominion Government purchased the Canada Eastern Railway Company for operation by the Intercolonial Railway.
