Two of these were the United Counties Railway Company, which was incorporated under Quebec Act, 46 Vic., Cap. 90 of 30 March 1883 and which operated 59.3 miles of line between Iberville and Bellevue Junction and the East Richelieu Valley Railway Company incorporated under Quebec Act, 54 Vic., Cap. 91 of 30 December 1890 which owned 21.9 miles of line from Noyan Junction to Iberville. These two companies experienced financial difficulties and, in 1900, both were acquired by the Delaware and Hudson which incorporated the Quebec Southern Railway Company under Dominion Act, 63-64 Vic., Cap. 76 of 7 July 1900 to operate their lines.
Another component was the South Shore Railway Company, which was incorporated under Quebec Act, 57 Vic., Cap. 72 of 8 January 1894 to obtain the property of two other companies. These were the Great Eastern Railway Company and the Montreal and Sorel Railway Company. Their tracks plus new construction gave a 61 mile line from St. Lambert to the St. Francis River. This company passed into the ownership of the Delaware and Hudson on 5 December 1903 and were operated by the Quebec Southern.
On 13 July 1906 the Quebec, Montreal and Southern Railway Company was incorporated under Dominion Act, 6 Edward VII, Cap. 150 to acquire the property and lines of the companies comprising the Quebec Southern Railway Company. With new construction added the company operated a 191 mile line. On 16 July 1929 the company was acquired by Canadian National Railway.
