Fonds consists of research notes compiled by Stanley Cohen, including correspondence with noted philatelists on the Canada postage stamp issues relating to the 10 cent Prince Consort and 17 cent Jacques Cartier; research notes on the Nova Scotia cents issue; and colour charts produced by the American Bank Note Company of Ottawa. The correspondents include Arnold Banfield, Leo Baresch, B.K. Denton, Fred Goodhelpsen, Les A. Davenport and Geoffrey Withworth. The fonds also contains a letter, n.d., written by Alfred Edward Chalon and sent to Lord (?) Westmacott; formerly part of the Arnold Banfield collection of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert collateral material.

Fonds also contains graphic materials and philatelic records, before 1851-1864. A portrait of H.R.H. Prince Albert, engraved under the superintendance of Mr. Chas. Heath by W.H. Egleton from a drawing by W. Drummond Esq., and printed by John & Fredk Tallis, London, Edinburg, and Dublin; a stamp size portrait of H.R.H. Prince Albert, printed by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New York; Province of Canada 10 cent Prince Albert First Cents issue (1859-1864) postage stamps, printed by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New York.

Cohen, Stanley : Stanley Cohen, philatelist and postal historian, resides in England. Cohen's interest in stamps began during his childhood, with the 50 cent "Bluenose" issue of 1929. He became a philatelic authority as well as a collector, and the classification system he and Horace Harrison developed for the 1868 Dominion issue of large cents are referred to as "C & H. Numbers" in handbooks and catalogues. Cohen contributed to many philatelic periodicals, including the Philatelic Literature Review, Gibbons Stamp Monthly, Maple Leaves and BNA Topics. His series of articles for the latter, on "Numerical Cancels on Canada's Large Queens," 1959-1961, was especially notable. He also contributed to Maple Leaves. He was a fellow of the Canadian Philatelic Society of Great Britain.

Cohen developed a renowned collection of Nineteenth Century Canadian stamps, a collection drawn from many other important collections, including all of the Banfield collection of 1859 10 cent Prince Consorts, and all or parts of the collections of Stanley Godden, Ludlow and Canham Squared Circles, Jones, Maresch, Dr. Day and E.A. Smythies. Displays of parts of his collection have won medals at philatelic conventions and shows, including CAPEX '78 in Toronto. When Cohen retired in 1986, he sold his collection through Jim A. Hennok Ltd. in Canada, and through Cavendish Philatelics of Derby in the United Kingdom. Canadian Postal Archives philatelist and accession files.

The textual records (research notes) and photographs (accession 1995-044 DAP) were acquired from Arthur W. Leggett, Toronto, Ontario., The postage stamps, prints (accession 1992-142 DAP) were acquired from Jim A. Hennock Ltd., Toronto, auction #8394, Stanley Cohen Collection, lot 1003; by the National Postal Museum (NPM accession 1987-054). They were later acquired by the Canadian Postal Archives (and initially included in CPA accession 1989-565)., The letter (accession 1992-123 DAP) was a gift from Stanley Cohen to the National Postal Museum (NPM accession number unknown). It was later acquired by the Canadian Postal Archives (and initially included in accession 1989-565).
