The first representatives of Cobourg's prominent families, including the Fields, had arrived between 1830 and 1850. John Field established a business in 1832 in which his sons were later employed. Local records indicate that the family was active in the social and political life of Cobourg. The miniature was among items in the estate sale of Elizabeth Field Fisher who was a descendant of the Field family.Additional information:Custodial history:The portrait miniature was acquired from a Coburg sale of the estate of Elizabeth Field Fisher who was a descendant of the Field family, early setters of Cobourg, Ontario. It was acquired by the National Archives along with two other items at Sotheby's (Canada), in Toronto.Source:Private -
