1 album (91 photographs) : 11" x 13"Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Two albums of photographs possibly depicting a rail journey across Canada on the Canadian Pacific Railway as well as north to Skagway and to the Yukon Territories in the late 1890s. The first album contains photographs of Niagara Falls, Kakabeka Falls, Winnipeg, Calgary, Banff, the Rocky Mountains, Lake Louise, Slekirk Range, Rogers Pass, Field, Yale, and other locations in Alberta and British Coumbia, culminating in several images of Vancouver, B. C. The second album contains images primarily relating to the Klondike Gold Rush, including views of the Chilkoot and other passes, Bennett Lake, the Stikine route, the Yukon River, and Dawson. Photographs are primarily by Notman for the C.P.R. album, although there are other photographers represented; the views of the Klondike are primarily by E. A. Hegg, Frank Laroche, and Edwards Bros.Provenance:Additional name(s):Additional information:General note:Miss Eva Davies may have been one of the three daughters of the Hon. Louis Davies (1845-1924), P.E.I. premier (1872-79) and politician who served in the Laurier cabinet (1896-1901) and who, as a Supreme Court judge, was involved in the Alaska Boundary Dispute. Another of Davies' daughters, Margaret, took a train trip to Vancouver on the C.P.R. in 1899-1900, which she documented in her diary, now owned by the National Archives of Canada (MG 29 C 108).Custodial history:The two albums were acquired from Miss Eva Davies, Little Hampton, Sussex, England.
