This is a preliminary record, please consult the linked accession. Sub-series consists of operational records created and/or maintained by the Transport Canada office located at Pearson International Airport. This office was formerly responsible for the management, operation, and maintenance of the airport. Authority for the airport was transferred to the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, which assumed responsibility on December 2, 1996.
Sub-series also consists of records relating to the redevelopment of Terminals 1 and 2 and the construction of Terminal 3 of Pearson International Airport. Unlike the other records accessioned into this series, the records of the redevelopment of T1/T2 were managed by a team located at Transport headquarters.
The redevelopment project for T1/T2 (terminals 1 & 2) sought to privatize the terminals. Unsolicited proposals for the redevelopment were submitted as early as September, 1989. With the change of government under Jean Chrétien, on December 3, 1993, it was announced that the government would cancel the contract. Litigation ensued
In December 1986, Transport Canada requested proposals for the development of Terminal 3 at Pearson International Airport. It opened on February 21, 1991.
