Canada. Transport Dangerous Goods Directorate : The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Directorate serves as the major source of regulatory development, information and guidance on dangerous goods transport for the public, industry and government employees. The name of the Directorate was changed in 1985 from the Transport of Dangerous Goods Branch. The Directorate administers the federal Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) program to promote public safety in the transportation of dangerous goods by all modes of transport through Canada. Activities include the development of standards and regulations and inspection and enforcement policies related to the handling, offering for transport, transportation, in transit storage of dangerous goods and distribution of standardized means of containment. It co-ordinates federal-provincial/territorial activities to ensure consistent Canada-wide delivery of the dangerous goods program and to facilitate interface between modes; and administers the availability of emergency response information through the operation of CANUTEC. The Directorate publishes a Dangerous Goods Newsletter and a number of awareness and explanatory brochures.
