Yoho National Park (Canada) : In 1886, a mountain park was established under the forest reserve clause in the vicinity of Mount Stephen, British Columbia (PC 1880, 10 October 1886). Yoho Park Reserve was established in 1901 on this tract of land, near Field, British Columbia, known for its glaciers, large waterfalls and beautiful scenery (PC 2181, 14 December 1901). Initial development of the park was supervised by the Superintendent of Rocky Mountains Park, Howard Douglas. In 1908 a resident superintendent was installed at Field, British Columbia and in 1911 Yoho was designated a Dominion Park (PC 1338, 8 June 1911). Until 1958 that superintendent was also responsible for Glacier and Mount Revelstoke National Parks. Expansion of the highway system through Kicking Horse Pass in the late 1920s made the park more accessible to the public as did the construction of the Trans-Canada Highway through Rogers Pass.
