Parks Canada. National Historic Sites. Southwestern Nova Scotia Area Office : National Historic Sites' Southwestern Nova Scotia Area Office, the administrative office responsible for Port Royal and Fort Anne, is located in Annapolis, Nova Scotia. Port Royal, a replica of a 1605 Habitant settlement in what is now Nova Scotia, was rebuilt by the Canadian government in 1939-1940 after much lobbying and research by several dedicated preservationists. Fort Anne, the seat of government for the Acadian colony, was designated as Canada's first historic site in 1917.
