Canada. Canadian Army. Battalion, 28th : The 28th Canadian Infantry Battalion was organized in October 1914 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel J.F.L. Embury under authorization published in General Order 36 of 15 March 1915. The battalion was mobilized in Winnipeg and recruited in Regina, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Fort William, Port Arthur and Prince Albert.

The battalion embarked at Montreal on 29 May 1915 aboard NORTHLAND, disembarking in England on 8 June 1915. Its strength was 36 officers and 1084 other ranks. The battalion arrived in France on 17 September 1915, becoming part of the 2nd Canadian Division, 6th Canadian Infantry Brigade. It was later reinforced by the 15th Canadian Reserve Battalion. The battalion returned to England on 12 April 1919, disembarked in Canada on 27 May 1919, was demobilized on 1 June 1919, and was disbanded by General Order 149 of 15 September 1920.

The battalion supported a brass band. The battalion colours were deposited in the Parliament Building in Regina on 1 November 1919.

The 28th Canadian Infantry Battalion was perpetuated by The Regina Rifle Regiment.
