Overseas Representative of the Director of Records : In January 1915, Sir Max Aitken was attached to General Headquarters in France to deal with records relating to the CEF. In September of the same year he became "General Representative for Canada at the front". Aitken was succeeded in January 1917 by Lieutenant-Colonel R.F. Manley Sims whose duties were to represent the Overseas Minister in all matters of Canadian interest at British General Headquarters in France. He was, in effect, the liaison officer between the Minister, the War Office and Canadian Corps and was the channel of direct communication on domestic matters between headquarters of the OMFC in London and the Canadian Corps.
