Canada. Dept. of Communications. Government Telecommunications Agency : The Government Telecommunications Agency (DGGT/GTA) was established in 1969 with the creation of the Department of Communications (DOC), though most responsibilities carried over from the Administrative Telecommunications Agency (ATA) of Department of Transport. Under DOC, the GTA was responsible for planning and managing the federal government's telecommunications facilities and services. It developed standards of service, established guidelines, and provided advice to meet the needs of federal departments and agencies.

The GTA was initially part of the Operations Sector, but by 1973 was under the Services Sector. A reorganization saw it combined with spectrum management functions under the Spectrum Management and Government Telecommunications Sector in the early 1980s. That arrangement was short-lived as by 1984 it was part of the Technology and Industry Sector (later the Telecommunications and Technology Sector).

In 1993, the GTA was transferred to the Department of Supply and Services, shortly before it became part of the Department of Public Works and Government Services.
