Series consists of awards presented to Walter Curtin by the Art Directors Club of Toronto. Such awards were made possible by the inclusion of photography in the National design awards held by the Art Directors Clubs of Toronto and Montreal. Yearly, from 1957 to 1962, Curtin received awards for his work in magazine advertising photography. The medal collection at the National Archives now holds four medals awarded to Walter Curtin in 1957, 1959, and 1960. Reference to the medal design is noted in the Royal Canadian Mint Annual Report for 1950. pp. 10-11. The medals, engraved with a kneeling male figure, holding a ball in one hand, a palette and paint brushes in the other, were designed by Charles Comfort.

Paper awards and certificates of merit are located in the 1981-262 accession file. Awards presented by the Art Directors Club of Toronto and Montreal for booklet design, picture story photographs, advertising and editorial art are included. One certificate of merit awarded by the Professional Photographers of America for works exhibited at their 1960 National Convention is also included.
