Series consists of Last's publications ranging from book chapters, refereed articles, general articles, letters to editors, editorials, book reviews to unpublished talks on all aspects of epidemiology and public health. Specific topics include health care in Australia, the training of doctors in Britain in the 1960s, the importance of public health programs, teaching of medicine, health implications of climate change and ethical concerns of epidemiologists. Files generally contain correspondence, drafts and the published work.

The electronic records of the series consist more specifically in correspondence and memoranda related to the edition of the 'Annals' of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada while John Last was its editor, between 1990 and 1997, as well as editorials, books reviews,and other texts written by Last in the Annals during this period. It contains also drafts of some chapters of the second edition of 'Public Health and Human Ecology' as well as drafts of some other publications he wrote in the 90s. It contains finally texts from graduates and administrators of the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Medicine (Medical School) for a publication commemorating its 50th Anniversary in 1995.
