Scope and content:

Series consists of files from the duplex-numeric file classification system with three-digit primaries that was adopted shortly after 1965 re-organization of the Department of Forestry. At this time many functions were centralized under a new Program Co-ordination Branch and other functions were delegated to regional institutes. By 1967 this three-digit duplex numeric system was initially introduced for Forestry Branch headquarters. It continued to be used as the department shifted to the Department of Forestry and Rural Development in 1966, and again when combined with fishery activities under the Department of Fisheries and Forestry in 1968.

The files in this series date mainly from the time of re-organization to the early seventies, although some files created earlier were brought forward into the new system. The files relate to general administrative and publicity matters such as departmental organization, forestry legislation, general administrative procedures, and departmental involvement in the Canadian Forestry Association and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), as well as to most of the activities of the Program Co-ordination Branch, including topics such as conferences, associations, and committees, studies, and interdepartmental committees. Also included are the project records of the individual components of the Program Co-ordination Branch., Series also includes posters produced from winning entries in a contest held in Canadian high schools between 1966 and 1971 by the Canadian Forestry Association, for forest fire prevention awareness.
