War Amputations of Canada : The War Amps was originally founded by a national charter in 1920 as The Amputations Association of The Great War, a fraternal society that was intended to provide direction for its members while also seeing to their needs. The organization's first President, Lieutenant Colonel Sidney Lambert, saw the need for an organization that would assist amputees. From this vision came the idea for a national association to help those individuals who had lost a limb or limbs or eyesight during their service to Canada, the British Empire, and allies of the World War I. Thereafter, the name of the Association was changed to The War Amputations of Canada. As disabled veterans returned from the Second World War, the organization provided information, fellowship and employment opportunities to all of its members.
