Servicio Oficial de Difusion Radio Electrica : Since its creation in 1929, the Servicio Oficial de Difusion Radio Electricia (SODRE) has been the governmental service in charge of the promotion of cultural activities in Uruguay. Originally created as a radio broadcasting service, today SODRE is a complex organization covering a wide range of activities. The organization promotes, through both broadcasting and artistic performances, culture all over Uruguay, and is the core leading institution in this field in the country. The SODRE comprises four main fields of activity including radio, television, entertainment, diffusion and preservation. Since 1931 the majority of artistic activities developed in Uruguay have been staged in the SODRE Auditorium. The five resident companies of SODRE are a Symphony Orchestra, a Chamber Music Group, a Chorus, a Corps of Ballet and a Radio-Serial Cast. These companies perform in the regular concert, opera and ballet seasons. SODRE, which now stands for the Servicio Oficial de Difusión, Radiotelevisión y Espectáculos, is located in Montevideo, Uruguay. Nigro, Nigro, Horacio A. "Radio Filatelia des de Uruguay." 1999.
