Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer : Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Productions of Canada was a subsidiary of the distribution arm of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio. The Canadian branch office was based in Toronto and was also known as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures of Canada Ltd. In 1973, the parent company, MGM, stopped distributing its own films and licensed distribution in the United States to United Artists Corporation (UA). By 1978, United Artists was the distributor of MGM films in 35mm and Bellevue Film Distributors had the license to distribute MGM films in 16mm. By 1989, MGM distribution in Canada was the responsibility of MGM/UA Televison Canada (distributor) and MGM/UA Distribution of Canada, both based in Toronto.

Custodial history:

This collection was part of the Canadian Film Institute's (CFI) transfer to the National Archives on May 12, 1975. The CFI received the material in 1973 from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures of Canada.
