Fonds consists of unedited film footage for Stern's uncompleted film Imperial valley and a theatrical trailer for the Russian film The armored cruiser Potemkin. Sound recordings consist of lectures delivered by Stern on cinema at the University of New york in 1971 and a short war recording from 1941.

Photographic material consists of miscellaneous photographs acquired by Seymour Stern such as: nitrate negatives of still objects, perhaps for film sets; unidentified landscape views; depictions of Communist demonstrators, Negro-White marches, hunger strikes, poverty, African-American agricultural workers, miner's families, evicted people living in tents, and mob lynches; film stills including Eisenstein's "Que Viva Mexico"; celebrity portraits inscribed to Max Laemmle; depictions of a painted mural by Siqueros; Sing Sing prison; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; art work by Covarrubias; photographs of labour and of Mexico. Also included are location shots for "Who Has Seen the Wind?" and "Que Viva Mexico"; casting photographs of actors including Gordon Pinsent, Patricia Hamilton, and Neil Munro among others; stills from "Birth of a Nation", "Thief of Bagdad", "The White Rose" among others; publicity photographs of Emerson, Lake and Palmer; depictions of film sets of films by D.W. Griffith including The Circus, Dracula, Fröken Julie, Birth of a Nation, The Storm Calls, Camille, The Bride of Frankenstein, Blind Husbands, The Black Pirate; photographs of costumes and set designs; depictions of Carol Dempster in Dream Street.

Stern, Seymour, 1908-1978 : Born in 1908, Seymour Stern was a screenwriter, editor, film critic. He directed the unfinished work Imperial Valley (1930) about labour exploitation in the California fruit fields; was co-editor of the review Experimental Cinema (1930-1934); a contributor to The Labour Defender; and the screenwriter for Dawn to dawn (1934), directed by Joseph Berne. Stern was dedicated to the influence of film on literature. Stern died January 22, 1978.
