12 containers of magazine tear sheets and large exhibition prints b&w and col.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of photographs which depict Hutterites in Canada including Crystal Springs Colony, Ste. Agathe, Manitoba; Ewelme Colony, Fort McLeod, Alberta; Pincher Creek Colony, Pincher Creek, Alberta; Thompson Colony, east of Pincher Creek, Alberta. Also included are photographs of the Second World War which depict such subjects as the German occupation of Holland, 1944-1945; the Canadian liberation of Holland; Amsterdam during liberation and on V-E Day; the Canadian cemetery at Venraay, Holland, and winter in Amsterdam, 1944-1945.
Other material depicts the mine disaster at Marcinelle, Belgium, 1957; Europe and the Middle East; behind the lines of the FLN in Algeria; development of SHAPE and NATO; the Brussels World Fair; a school for the deaf at Milton, Ontario; the Sunnyside Home for Disturbed Children, Kingston, Ontario; locations and events in Canada and from around the world. Also depicted is Taconis' work from 1959 to 1978 for the Star Weekly as well as lantern slides from a lecture on photographer Eric Salomon. Further photographic material consists of the Polar Gas Tour album which depicts company officials at the Frobisher Bay airport, in aircraft, at the Arctic Island research program base at Rea Point, Melville Island, with drilling rigs in operation, Northwest Territories, as well as Inuit and dog sleighs, May 1974.
Also included are landscapes and scenes from various assignments in the Prairies, Quetico Park and a slag pouring operation in Sudbury, Ontario; three generations of Newfoundlanders; the Arctic; the River Meuse in Holland. Also included are several of Kryn Taconis' photo assignments while he was a member of Magnum Photo Inc., an internationally reknown photo agency.
