The latter index, which is only available on microfilm, appears to be a duplication in part of the former index.
The index to Special Grants and Leases (1700-1867, volume 912, reel M-1637) contains two indexes. The first index is a nominal listing in alphabetical order to the names which appear in the second index. It provides the page number in the index and the line number on the page where each name is located.
The second index to Special Grants and Leases (1700-1867) is a nominal index arranged in alphabetical order. It contains the following information: the name of the grantee, the number of acres granted, the date of the patent, the location of the land, the date when the patent was issued and to whom it was issued, the liber (register) and the folio (page) in which a copy of the relevant document may be located. Once the liber is known, one must find the volume number and the microfilm reel number assigned to it in order to locate a copy of the document. This may be done by using the conversion list which is finding aid 68-2.
The index to Special Grants and Leases (1798-1867, reel M-1642) is a nominal index arranged in alphabetical order. It contains the following information: the name of the grantee, the number of acres granted, the date of the patent, a description of the grant, the location of the land, the liber (register) and the folio (page) in which a copy of the relevant document may be found.
