This is a preliminary record, please consult the linked accessions. Series consists of two unique collections accumulated within the Health Protection Branch.

The first collection includes a small handwritten journal containing what appears to be the 4th revision of the Food and Drug Act (1920); a catalogue of HPB displays, showing the display itself (including photographs), and the location and date of the mounting of the display; a binder of instructions of how to complete and tabulate a client survey on sweeteners; and a binder containing copies of all Food and Drug legislation from 1874-1949. Furthermore, the first collection contains the appendices to the report, by the Special Committee on Drugs of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, reviewing the regulations covering the approval of new drugs.

The second collection consists of miscellaneous scrapbooks, ledgers and some photographs accumulated in the Banting Library of the Health Protection Branch. The textual records in this accession are scrapbooks and ledgers. The scrapbooks contain newspaper and magazine articles on nutrition and cures and drugs, copies of drug and vitamin labels, and general news clippings relating to the Food and Drugs Directorate. The ledgers contain scientific data on tests on arsenicals, herbicides and pesticides. The photographs include: group and individual portraits of laboratory staff (some unidentified); Health and Welfare buildings and mobile labs; and photos relating to inspection of a poultry farm, and the testing of food samples.
