Sketchbook
These 20 watercolours were originally bound in a sketchbook but it has since been disassembled. Another 6 watercolours from a second sketchbook entitled "Sketches in Canada and the States of Illinois and Michigan 1841-42-43" were acquired at the same time and from the same source, and are accessioned as 1955-129..

Original extent note:

A sketchbook entitled, "Views in the Canada's" by Ainslie, who was a British military officer stationed in Canada from 1838-1843 and depicted the Rideau Canal, St. Lawrence River, Falls of Montmorency, Ottawa, Fort Henry, a quarantine station at Grosse Isle, the Windmill at Prescott, site of an 1838 battle, and the steamer "Great Britain". Works by Henry Francis Ainslie (1803-1879).
