Fonds consists of activities of Carl F. Burke, president of Maritime Central Airways, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, 1952-1963; portraits of Burke and family, 1937-1963; operation of Maritime Central Airways, including airlift of Hungarian refugees to Canada, 1956; airlift of materials for construction of the Distant Early Warning Line, 1959; various types of aircraft used by Maritime Central Airways, including Lockheed 10A CF-BXE, DC-3 CF-GHQ, DC-4s CF-MCB, CF-MCI, and CF-NAA, and Vickers "Viscount" CF-MCJ; portrait of Captain Carl F. Burke, Canadian Airways, ca. 1941.

Burke, Carl Frederick, 1913-1976 : Carl Frederick Burke was born 10 February 1913 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He was educated at the Charlottetown Business College and, in 1937, obtained his private pilot's license. Thereafter, he accepted a position with Canadian Airways Limited located in Moncton, New Brunswick. In 1941 Burke and Josiah Anderson formed Maritime Central Airways, a Maritime air service. During WWII he also worked conducting seal surveys, lobster charters, bush flying, and ice patrols for the Federal Department of Transport. In 1954 he was appointed administrator of the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line, a project established by NATO forces. Burke was awarded an MBE, Officer, Order of The British Empire. He died 7 September 1976. In 1981 he was inducted into Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame. National Library of Canada Electronic Collection: Carl Frederick Burke. 2002. . 1517
