Fonds consists of medallic objects including a replica of the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine awarded to Frederick Banting; plaquette representing Louis Pasteur; plaquette representing Medicine; plaquette representing Hygiene; commemorative medal of the birth of Louis Pasteur (1922); commemorative medal of Pierre Bayle (1819); commemorative medal of François Rabelais (1818); commemorative medal of Ambroise Paré (1819); medal portraying Hippocrates; commemorative medal of Louis Joseph Gay-Lussac; commemorative medal of René Descarte (1846); commemorative medal of Laurent Lavoisier; and a commemorative medal of Claude Bernard (1879).

Fonds also consists of a sound recording entitled Christmas Greeting, documenting a talk by Dr. Frederick Banting, recorded by CFRB, November 1940.

Also available is a portrait of Dr. Frederick Grant Banting by Tibor Polya in 1925.

Banting, F. G. (Frederick Grant), Sir, 1891-1941 : Sir Frederick Grant Banting was born 14 November 1891 in Alliston, Ontario. He was educated at the University of Toronto, graduating with a degree in medicine in 1916. Thereafter, he served as medical officer in France during WWI. Between 1919 and 1920 he completed his training as an orthopedic surgeon and, in 1920, began practicing medicine in London, Ontario. Banting's medical practice was put on hold when, in 1921, he and Charles Best began their research into insulin. In 1923 Banting and John J.R. Macleod, head of the physiology department at the University of Toronto, were awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine/physiology. Banting was later named head of a new department of medical research at the University of Toronto. In 1934 he was knighted as Sir Frederick Banting. In addition to his medical research, Banting became an accomplished amateur painter. Banting died 21 February 1941 in a plane crash over Newfoundland.
