The fonds consists of Mattyasovszky Zsolnay's personal papers; of documentation pertaining to his participation in Hungarian Canadian community life, including his work in refugee relief and the Hungarian Scout movement, as well as of documentation on his involvement in the multiculturalism program of the larger society, in particular through the Canadian Citizenship Council.

Mattyasovszky-Zsolnay, Miklos de, 1912-2005 : Born in Pecs, Hungary, Miklos Mattyasovszky Zsolnay completed his doctorate of law degree before joining the family owned factory of Porcelain and Fayance Manufacturing in Pecs. He fled to Germany toward the end of the war, where he remained until he emigrated to Canada in 1952. After a brief stay in Valleyfield, Quebec, he moved to Montreal, where, in 1974, he retired from his position as accountant with the Dominion Textile Company.

Miklos Mattyasovszky Zsolnay became involved in a variety of community organizations. This included the Hungarian Scouts Association, which he served as president from 1953 to 1973, after which he was made lifetime honorary president.

In 1957, he was elected president of the Grand Committee of Hungarian Churches and Societies of Montreal, an organization he remained with until he relocated to Ottawa in 1981. While in Montreal, he also became extensively involved in refugee relief through the Canadian Hungarian Relief Fund and the Quebec Committee for Hungarian Relief, both of which were very active in aiding the 1956 Hungarian refugees. He also served in a leading role in the Canadian Citizenship Council, through which he became involved in the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism and in the Gendron Commission.

In recognition of his work, he was granted the Canadian Centennial Medal (1967), the Special Citizenship Merit Award (1970), an Honorary Citizenship Diploma (1974), the Queen's Jubilee Medal (1977), the Order of Canada (1979), the Jubilee Medal of La fédération des groupes ethniques du Quebec" (1987), and the Officer's Cross of the Republic of Hungary (1993).
