Fonds consists of works executed by Walter Chesterton including portraits, landscapes, seascapes, city views as well as such specific works entitled "View of Old Dufferin and Sappers' bridges in Ottawa, 1877", "Old Poolie's bridge, Ottawa", "The Flats, Ottawa", and "Bic, 1911". Also included in this fonds are works by Lillian Chesterton and J.A. Chesteron. Photographic material consists of a portrait by C.S. Ltd., Westminster, S.W. London of Miss Lillian Chesterton, daughter of the artist Walter Chesterton.

Chesterton, Walter, 1845-1931 : Walter Chesterton was born in Kensington, London, England and came to Canada in 1870. He was a noted architect who worked in Ottawa and Montréal until 1881 and Winnipeg until 1903. He married Miss Ashworth of Aylmer in 1874. In 1903 he retired to Ottawa, where he remained until his death. He was employed by the federal government. Chesterton was a well-known architect and artist who is well represented in the holdings of the National Archives.
