Fonds consists of three sketchbooks: the first contains views of Point Levi, Quebec, Chambly, and unidentified views; the second contains views of the Isle of Orlean, North Channel of the St. Lawrence, Chaudiere Falls, and the Rapids above Montmorenci, along with other views; the third contains views of Ste. Anne, Point Levi and other views of southern Quebec. Works are by V. Gardner Clayton. Fifty-one of the watercolours are bound into the sketchbooks and there are twelve loose watercolours.

Clayton, V. Gardner, fl. 1868-1870 : V. Gardner Clayton, topographer, was a British Royal Engineer stationed in Canada from ca. 1867 to 1870 at Point Lévis, Quebec. He was employed in the construction of the Lévis Forts.

General note:

Presented by the artist's grandson, Lt.-Col. V.C. Clayton, in memory of his brother, Pte. A.G. Clayton, who was killed in 1915 while serving with the princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.
