This collection of landscape architectural drawings was donated to the National Archives of Canada by Floyd and Gerrard, Landscape Architects, in July 1982 and catalogued in 1983. It contains 3,730 working drawings, 46 presentation drawings, manuscript material, photographs and slides from J. Austin Floyd's career as a landscape architect. Floyd's practice covered a full range of landscape activities including several major parks in Ontario and Alberta, botanical gardens, medical gardens, city parks and playgrounds, as well as gardens for public and private institutions, apartment buildings and private residences.

The fonds is a complete working record of one of Canada's first "fully fledged" landscape architects who can also be considered one of the first modern landscape architects in the country. The fonds consists of a limited amount of biographical information, being mostly corporate and professional records. Most of the textual portion of the fonds consists of landscape specifications and related documentation organized by project. Graphic material consists of photographs of project sites and construction progress relating to J. Austin Floyd, landscape artist such as: private residences, housing projects, apartment buildings, parks, playgrounds, hospitals, commercial sites, shopping cetres in Toronto, Ontario and vicinity; trade photographs of indoor plant specimens; transparencies illustrating lectures on landscape architecture; some personal snapshots.
