Fonds consists of photographs taken by Frank Prazak for Weekend Magazine (ca. 1964-1978), for Perspectives and Perspectives-Dimanche (1977-1979), and for other magazines such as Today, Wine Tidings and Decormag (ca. 1980-1987). Also included are a number of photographs he took on speculation or for his own interest, as well as some which were included by Image Bank and Masterfile in their photographer's files. The images in the collection are as varied as the various assignments from Weekend and the other magazines. Geographically, most of the photographs' topics are located in Montreal and Toronto, although some range from British Columbia to Newfoundland. This fonds complements the Weekend Magazine collection (1979-249), which includes only the images used in articles (and occasionally these are missing). It thus not only provides additional image documentation but also indicates the nature of the editorial selection function. A number of assignments are accompanied by copies of the magazine in which they appeared, including the article (often written by Prazak). Many of Prazak's photographs were used as cover photos.

Prazak, Frank : Frank Prazak was born in Prague, Czeckoslovakia. After beginning photography in New York, Frank Prazak moved in 1954 to Montreal where he was employed in the darkroom at Weekend Magazine. By 1957 he was doing assignments, mainly sports related. After Weekend folded in 1979 he freelanced out of Toronto for a number of years. Many of his editorial photographs from Weekend Magazine, Perspectives, and others are held at the National Archives. 65,000 of his hockey photographs are held at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
