Biography/Administrative history:

Canada. Dept. of National Health and Welfare. Health Protection Branch. Atlantic Regional Office : Since the 1919 creation of the Department of Health, there has been a federal health presence in the regions. The functions of the Health Protection Branch (HPB), including the protection of Canadians against health risks arising from environmental or industrial hazards, unsafe food, illicit drugs, communicable diseases and medical devices have always demanded a regional presence. Since its formation in 1944, HPB has had regional offices specifically devoted to its mandate. Based in Halifax, the Atlantic Regional Office of HPB handled operational and administrative issues pertaining to the Branch's activities in that province
