Fonds consists of microfilmed selections from the archives of the Bank of England relating to general economic relations with Canada and financial relations with Canada including trade. This material is located on microfilm reels A-2140 to A-2143. For general economic relations, microfilmed material consists of correspondence, memoranda or briefing notes; decoded cablegrams and newspaper clippings, 1932 to 1935. Currency policy, balance of payments, depreciation of the Canadian dollar, Canadian banking, foreign and British investments in Canada are topics of concern, microfilm reel A-2140.

For financial relations including trade, microfilmed material consists of correspondence, notes, reports, decoded cablegrams, notes of conversations, and reports of visits to Canada, 1936 to 1965, microfilm reels A-2140 to A-2143. Major topics include: visits to Canada and the U.S.A. of United Kingdom officials, issues associated with U.K.-Canada trade and U.K. imports from Canada; UK-Canada financial negotiations for a Canadian loan; the Bank of England and its relations with the Bank of Canada, the Great Depression, the establishment of the Bank of Canada, the Hon. Great Britain. Bank of England : The Bank of England was established by Act of Parliament in 1694 as the first public bank in the British Isles. During the eighteenth century it became the government's own bank as well as acting for other British banks. In the former capacity it took on the management of the national debt and responsibility for the issue of bank notes in England and Wales. Since nationalization in 1946, its functions have been extended to include supervision of deposit-taking institutions and the gold bullion market, and advice to government on national monetary policy.
