This album, comprised of 105 pages on which 435 photographs are mounted, consists of surveys and expeditions that Joseph Dewey Soper made on Baffin Island, documenting the landscapes, plantation, and bird life found. Photos by J.D. (Joseph Dewey) Soper, zoologist. The bird survey was done at Bowman Bay, and he was the first to discover the breeding grounds of the blue goose. There is also a series of portraits of the Inuit living at Cape Dorset. Soper also took many photographs of the camps he set up while completing his work.

The following places can be found in the album: Cartwright, Labrador; Port Burwell, N.W.T.; Wakeham Bay, Ungava; Lake Harbour, Baffin Island; Parketuk Bay; Dorset Harbour; Carin Mountain; Cape Alberta, Bowman Bay, Baffin Island; typical blue goose nesting area; Cape Dorset, Baffin Island; Nuwata, Baffin Island; Terreokjuk, Baffin Island; Konggok Narrows, Baffin Island; Tessikjirak Lake, Baffin Island; Chorbak Inlet, Hudson Strait; Camp Kungovik, Bowman Bay, Baffin Island; Asweeto Ridge, Bowman Bay, Baffin Island.

The following events can be found in the album: Soper taking solar observations, Nuwata; Inuit arriving at Nuwata, Baffin Island; Inuit skinning ptarmigan; stretching seal skin to dry; curing caribou meat in wind and sun; building snowhouse camp; icing sled runners; preparations for the trail; cleaning walrus hides; portaging.

The following animals can be found in the album: types of birds at Nuwata; old squaw duck and herring gull; white whale (dead); sled dogs; ring seal; fetus of white whale (approx. 18 inches); young arctic foxes bearded seal; narwhal; types of birds at Bowman Bay - willow and rock ptarmigan, blue goose, lapland longspur, hutchin's goose, sandpiper etc.; lemming; young arctic hare.

This album was originally part of accession 1974-366, which had been integrated into 1973-357. It has since been separated back into the two individual accessions of 1973-357 and 1974-366.
