Geiger-Torel, Herman, 1907-1976 : Originaire d'Allemagne, Herman Geiger-Torel, fils de la musicienne Rosy Geiger-Kullmann, étudie la mise en scène d'opéra au Conservatoire Hoch. Il entreprend une carrière de metteur en scène en Europe et en Amérique Latine où il fait la mise en scène de six opéras au Teatro Colón à Buenos Aires. En 1943, il devient premier metteur en scène à l'Opéra national de l'Uruguay et occupe, en 1945, le même poste au Teatro Municipal à Rio de Janeiro. Invité comme professeur à la Royal Conservatory Opera School de Toronto, Geiger-Torel s'installe au Canada en 1948 et devient aussi metteur en scène à cette même école. De 1950 jusqu'en 1976, il est nommé successivement premier metteur en scène, directeur artistique et directeur général de la Canadian Opera Company. En 1969, il est fait officier de l'Ordre du Canada.
