The collection comprises eight parchment manuscripts of land transactions in Lyngfeld Parish, Surrey County, England, dating from 1448 to 1712, and rough translations to English of the seven documents that are written in Latin. The first item is a deed of sale of a messuage, a croft, and three gardens to Margaret and Thomas Lullynden from Roger Lullynden and Richard German (or Derman) in 1448. The second and third items are instruments of sale of a messuage at or named Germannyslond (or Dermannyslond) and a croft named Spenceriscroft to John Powle and Richard Powle from John Harlyng in 1484. Item 4 is an instrument of transfer of the messuage Germannyslond, three gardens, a croft, and a croft of land called Spencerscrofte with one granary to Richard Barr, William Potyn, Robert Marche, William Underhill, and William Schawe from John Powle of Lyngfeld and Richard Powle of Sevenoaks in Kent County, in 1485 or 1486.

The fifth item is an indenture written in English of the sale of a tenement, three gardens, and a croft at Germannysland (or Dermannysland) from John Polle of Etonbrigge to John Umfrey of Estgryn, Sussex County, in 1524 or 1525. Item 6 is a partially legible document, possibly a mortgage, concerning a messuage and three gardens in Lyngfeld which involves the parties John Polle, John Umfrey, William Umfrey, George Delyard, Robert Drudenett (or Brudenett), and Thomas Warr, dated 1524 or 1525. The seventh item is a deed of sale of a messuage or tenement, granary, garden, and croft of land to Thomas Dane (or Dana), yeoman of Lyngfeld, from William Groomebridge, yeoman of Lyngfeld, in 1620. Finally, item 8 is a brief, partially legible document dating from 1712 in the reign of Queen Anne.

General note:

Donated in 1982 by J. Edward Whittaker of Saint John, New Brunswick. The translation of the documents, made ca. 1950, has the title "Old English Documents belonging to Mr. Bruce Marshall", with the name Bruce Marshall scratched out and the name G. W. [Macdonald?] written instead in pencil.
