The earlier items consist mainly of booklets meant to entertain and educate children (e.g. Aesop's Fables, Pretty Stories with Pretty Pictures to Instruct and Amuse Little Folks). Other items are religious in nature (e.g. Divine Songs, Tract on Ascension Day), or intended for an older audience (Ladies' Cabinet of Fashion, Music and Romance). Such items show some of the influences to which the Hallen children were exposed. Also included in this series are sundry items from later years such as newsclippings, a concert programme, a postal rates book, a map of Manitoba and a key plan of the Ferguson Highway from North Bay to Cochrane.
