Four drawings entitled "Pendant la Messe"; [Postman in the country - Winter]; "La Traverse"; "Noël D'Autrefois". Work by J. Arthur Lemay (active ca. 1920-1955).
Bound volume entitled "Milles Têtes". Work by J. Arthur Lemay (active 1930), printed in Paris France (n.d.) by Les Ateliers de l'Héliogravure d'art. Preface by Robert de Roquebrune. The volume consists of 152 pages containing 482 portraits of important contemporary Canadians, primarily from Quebec. These include Arthur G. Doughty, l'Abbé Lionel Groulx, William Lyon Mackenzie King, Oscar Douglas Skelton, Duncan Campbell Scott. The volume includes a table of contents and a copy of this is in the artist file 705-698. The portraits have not been described at the item-level. The National Archives has a second copy of this volume, part of the W.L. Mackenzie King collection..
This is a retrospective accession. The information about it is found in RG 37 "C" Series, Volume 339, File 1930-58; The Picture Division Accession Book 1921-1931, May 17 1930 ; and in the artist file 705-698 items I-1, I-2, I-3, I-4.
The original purchase is described in RG 37 as "5 sketches of Canadian scenes, & 4 copies from "Milles tête", 00." The Accession Book and the inventory list in the artist file only refer to four drawings. The Accession Book entry also refers to a "Book entitled "Milles Têtes" by J. A. Lemay" The book "Milles Têtes" has been given accession number 1996-390-5..
