Hodgson, on April 2, 1913, listed two pencil sketches of St. John's Harbour, Newfoundland, apparently engraved for The Naval Chronicle, for 1811 (vol. 26), , and two other views. This Coverdale watercolour is nearly identical in composition to the aquatint "Outside view of St. John's Harbour, Newfoundland," engraved by Baily after Pocock and published in The Naval Chronicle, for 1811 (vol. 26, July-December, plate CCCXLII, fac. p. 52).
