Platemark x cmLanguage of material:no languageScope and content:Painting is after Richard Short's on-the-spot drawing of the subject., This painting and its companion, "A View of the church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire, Quebec City" are believed to have originated from the Townshend family homes in Norfolk, England, as evidenced by a label formerly attached to the verso of the companion work. Although born in France in 1722, Serres was in England by 1758, and pursued an artistic career there, becoming Marine Painter to the King in 1780. He died in 1793.
